Custom Metrics

If a specific metric isn't available, define and calculate it using Scrab’s Custom Metric tool.

What Are Custom Metrics?

Custom Metrics in Scrab allow you to extend the platform’s capabilities by creating your own financial metrics for more tailored analysis. If a metric you need doesn't exist, you can define and calculate it using Scrab's Custom Metric tool.

Why Are Custom Metrics Useful?

Custom Metrics are invaluable when standard metrics don’t fit your needs. For example, if you want a "Revenue Average," you can create it by combining different revenue data points—like TTM, and Annual—and dividing them by two.

Similarly, you can create Price Target Upside, which will be adjusted using Upside Median from the last 3 years. This way it will be easier to see where the current Upside is, considering historical values of this metric.

This helps create a more personalized analysis and find profits using financial metrics you invent, not accessible to other investors using popular stock research platforms.

How to Create Custom Metrics

  1. Navigate to Custom Metrics: Go to the left navigation panel and click Custom Metrics.

  2. Add a New Metric: Click + New Metric. Enter a name for your Metric.

  3. Add Existing Metrics: Click + Add Metric to use the search bar or select the metrics you need.

  4. Choose a display format: Depending on the metric type, you can choose between Millions, Price, Percent, and Number.

  5. Create a Formula: Input your custom formula. For instance, (A+B+C)/3.

  6. Save: Once complete, click Save. Scrab will take a few moments to calculate the new Metric.

  7. Daily Updates: After that initial calculation, your custom metric will be updated daily.

What mathematical operations are allowed

You can use basic operations:

  • +

  • -

  • /

  • *

You can also use brackets and decimal numbers.

So formulas such as

(A+B)/3.14*(C*D+(A*2))

are absolutely fine.

Where Custom Metrics Can Be Used

Custom Metrics can be applied in various Scrab features such as:

  • Scoring Models

  • Portfolios

  • Master Charts

  • Multi-Charts

  • Backtests

Which "Display Format" to choose?

Display Format only affects how your Custom Metric will be displayed in Master Chart. Depending on this setting, your metric will be displayed in a panel together with other metrics of the same type.

For example:

  • Percent: Metric will be displayed in the same panel as Operating Margin, Price Target Upside and Dividend Yield, as they are all percentages.

  • Millions: Metric will be grouped together with Revenue, Cash From Operations, Total Assets and all other metrics that are usually millions/billions.

  • Number: It will be the same panel as Price/Sales Ratio, EPS, Dividend and other metrics that are not percentages nor millions/billions.
